Midge Hill ACT President Neil Hayes ACT Secretary Peter Chung ACT Treasurer Peter Chung has been doing judo for over 40 years and has been an established coach in the ACT for over 30 years having taught judo at schools, the YMCA, the PCYC and at the ANU where he is the club president and head coach. He was a state and national competitor and began his judo in Sydney where he was coached by members of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic team. His career highlights include a three month stint in the early seventies in Japan where he trained and competed and was fortunate to be able to train with members of Japan's national team which included the Olympic and world champions of the time. Peter had been on the management committee of the JFAACT since its inception in 1983 and currently holds the position of Treasurer. Peter is also an ACT "A" grade referee He is a quiet achiever who realises that sport must be well run at the local level so he concentrates his energies in Canberra. Narelle Hill Ex-Olympian Narelle Hill began judo in 1978 at the Marist Judo Club in Canberra. She has done all of her Judo there. She won her first Australian Title in 1986 at the age of 15. Since that time she was continually ranked in the top two players in her division until her retirement from competitive judo in 1997. While she started representing as an under 66 kilogram player she soon realised that she would be much more competitive if she lost all excess weight. She then trimmed down and competed in the under 56 kilogram division. She first represented Australia in 1988 at the Oceania Championships where she won a gold medal. Other career highlights since then include a 9th place in the World Titles in 1989; 1st place in the American Open in 1991 and 1992; 3rd Place at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 in New Zealand; 2nd place in the British Open in 1994 and she represented Australia at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, USA. In 2000 Narelle carried the Olympic torch when it came through Canberra. By this time she had retired from competitive Judo in favour of having a family. She now has four children. Up until this year Narelle has continued to coach Judo at the Marist Judo Club, concentrating on junior players. She has been Secretary of the JFAACT during 2005-2006.
Colin Hill Ex Olympic Manager Colin Hill began his judo career in 1977 when his son took up the sport at school. After attending a tournament and being extremely confused by the rules, he decided to get more involved. He took up the sport with three of his other children in 1978. He started by helping to coach junior players and joining his club’s management committee. He became the President of the Marist Canberra Judo Club in 1983 and has held that position ever since. He joined the committee of the JFAACT in 1989 and was voted in as its President in 1993. He remained President until November 2006. In 2006 he was elected as Treasurer of the JFA Inc. In November 2009 he resigned from the JFA Board. Besides administration, Colin has involved himself in other aspects of the sport. He is a National “A” grade referee and held a place on the JFA Referee’s Commission in 1995/1996. From 1998, he has managed numerous Australian Judo Teams competing overseas. In 2000 he was the team manager for the Australian Judo team at the Sydney Olympic Games. He continues to manage Australian Judo teams.
